We took a crazy super vacation this past month. It was a lot of driving but very worth it. After my week at girls camp we left for a 17 hour drive to Utah. Utah wasn't our destination quite yet so after sleeping at Chad's grandparents for the night we continued on 12 more hours to California!
While in California we saw Chad's grandma, Grandma Meeker!
We went to the Jelly Belly factory! Yum!
We spent and afternoon/evening swimming at Alexis and Ed's house.
Then went out to dinner and got to know everyone better!
We love getting to see family and we are super happy that we got to see Grandma on this trip! With some hope it wont be too long before we see her again!
Once we said goodbye to Grandma Meeker we were in the car again to drive up to Oregon!
This is how Lily slept while in the car.
We drove through the California Redwoods!
We even made a stop to see Paul Bunyan and Babe at Trees of Mystery!
Lily had just woken up and was a little upset that she had to sit on this big guys foot.
Ellie on the other hand loved it!
Both of the girls thought it was so much fun that Paul talks to you. If you talk loud enough for him to hear you he will answer questions and even comment on what you are doing :)
We finally made it to Oregon!
We stayed at the Olander's house for a few day! Lily and Ellie were so excited to see cousins!
Kara and Matt's ward run a booth at their county fair to raise money for the youth activities. We got to go see Matt and Anna work the booth!
Yum! Cotton candy!
The fair was super cute! The girls and Jefferson got to see so many animals.
The kids also got to go on some rides too!
Anna and Ashley were so great with my girls!
Chad got to go on a ride with Jefferson! It was a huge swing ride that went really high up in the air!
In my opinion the best part of the night was the rodeo! This was only the second rodeo I've ever been to! We saw some bull riders, some team roping, and a chicken scramble.
I had no idea what a chicken scramble was but let me tell you... so funny. They line up all the kids under the age of 8 and release a bunch of chickens. If you catch one you get to take one home.
Ashley and Ellie even got in on the action. Ellie was a little confused but Ashley wanted one of those chickens so bad. Unfortunately she didn't get one- maybe next year Ash.
After the scramble ended Chad was helping a little girl over the fence with a bag that had the chicken she caught in it. The girl was so happy to caught one but her mother didn't look as thrilled when she informed her that they were not bringing a chicken back to Portland (about 4 hour drive) with them.
After a few fun days with the Olanders we went to visit the area where Chad served his mission. We stayed with the Charley family! They are a sweet family and it was so good to see them! The last time we saw them was our wedding!
They had two cats- Lily and Ellie were in love. One had the good sense to run but the other put up with the girls.
Pictures together! Their daughter had left for a meeting before we remembered to take pictures so we just held up a picture of her in it :)
We are so blessed to have such great people all over to visit!
Our vacation continued when we got back to the Olander's house...
